Title: NUCLEAR POWER PLANT FUNDAMENTALS AND CONSTRUCTION
This presentation has been designed for those individuals who are new to Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Construction. It also provides an excellent review and update for those who have been involved in the Nuclear Power Plant Construction industry as it presents new construction technologies being used on NPP under construction and for future projects.
With the objective of nuclear power generation cost to be competitive with coal and gas fired plants, new construction technologies are implemented to improve construction schedule. Equipment requirements are also reduced with the inclusion of passive safety features in the recent NPP projects.
Course Outline
Statistics on Global Power Requirements Concepts on Nuclear Fission Uranium and Fuel Cycle Pressurized & Boiler Water Reactors Plant Processes Safety, Security and Environmental Issues QA/QC Requirements as per 10CFR 50 Appendix B ASME NQA-1 ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III Material Certification, Traceability & Identification Requirements Structures and Nuclear Components Construction Typical to All Building Groups Construction Specific to the Nuclear Island Construction Specific to the Turbine Island and to the Balance of Plant
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
Understand the basic operation involved in the power generation of nuclear power plants, how heat is generated from the fission of uranium, the fuel cycle in a nuclear power plant, “defense in depth concepts”.
Differentiate the different plant processes involved in a BWR, PWR, Fast Breeder Reactor and Passive Safety Systems.
Locate materials, design, fabrication, examination, testing, inspection, installation, certification, stamping and over pressure requirements in the ASME BPVC Section III Sub section NCA, NB, NC, ND, NE, NF, NG, NH.
Learn the material issues in construction.
Identify the different structures and components in a nuclear power plant, construction activities applicable to all building groups, and those specific to nuclear island buildings and structures, activities and technologies specific to turbine island buildings and structures to balance of plant buildings and structures.
Learn about modularization, its advantages and great potential in reducing construction schedule; new techniques in shortening construction schedule when larger components are used in critical components.
